The Beijing Experience: will be open to graduates of any Junior Statesmen Summer School and will offer a course in Chinese History and Government and an introductory Chinese Language course.  Special activities include a day hike along an ancient section of the Great Wall, a trip to historic city of Xi'an, service learning opportunities, a cultural exchange program with local Chinese students, and, of course, an interactive guest speakers program.  An optional 3-day trip to Shanghai at the end of the program allows students to see the modern, economic capital of China, as well as to learn more about China’s colonial past.

An exciting one week summer program that includes a “real world” business simulation, very much like “The Apprentice!”  Each student is part of a company that develops an imaginary business venture and competes for awards during the Emerging Entrepreneur Competition. This is for students who are motivated, looking for a challenge, and interested in meeting high school kids from across the state.   Ohio businesses (Including the Troy Chamber of Commerce) sponsor students for most of the cost. $625=Total cost   $450= Business sponsorship  $175 =Student cost.  Troy Chamber of Commerce will sponsor $100 for two candidates.  Final cost can be $90!   U.S. Congressional Page Program

Students serve as a Congressional Page during the junior year in HS and attend Page School that teaches the junior year curriculum. Must have 3.0 GPA minimum and US Citizen. Must be appointed by a member of Congress or Senator. Send letters of interest to your two state Senators and one to your Representative expressing your interest in the program. Send your freshman  or early sophomore year. There are only 72 House Pages and 30 Senate Pages. Competition is great. 

Volunteer for local organizations, work on political campaigns, be involved, take strong classes and keep grades up. Keep tabs with  your senators and representative by phone or letter. Being a page of Congress gives students the best view of government in action!


  UNITED STATES SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM              EDUCATION • LEADERSHIP • PUBLIC SERVICE

The United States Senate Youth Program, established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service. The 47th annual program will be held in Washington, D.C., from March 7 - 14, 2009. Two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by Senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and directors of other federal agencies, as well as participate in a meeting with a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. All transportation, hotel and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations. In addition, each delegate will also be awarded a $5,000 College Scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science. http://www.ussenateyouth.org/
